Getting Fire Safety messages to the community is a
priority for all forces, but with the general public being bombarded
with TV, Cinema and the Internet, it is a challenge for any
message from the Fire Service to hit home!
| Bluetooth Helps Get Message Across |
North Wales Fire Service have found an ingenious way of
getting around reaching more people. They are 'Bluetoothing' messages to mobile phones
from their Fire Engines!
This technology is known as 'Bloo2thing' and was pioneered
by the force in conjunction with bloo2, a specialist in this type of
technology.
'Bloo2thing' uses Bluetooth technology to send animations and messages to
phones within 100 metres of the Fire Engine for free. This has been used
to raise awareness for Home Fire Safety Checks, Community Fundraising and Fire
Prevention Techniques. Not only is this technology simple to use, it has
successfully engaged citizens with local Fire Awareness Programs.

| How 'Bloo2thing' works for Kevin Davies, Community Fire Station Manager, Rhyl, North Wales |
"We are delighted at the amount of additional interest that 'Bloo2thing' has brought to our Fire Safety Campaigns. People seem more responsive to our messages when they see them on their mobile phones, we will be looking at incorporating 'Bloo2thing' into further fundraising and safety projects."
